Lead Belay
Lead climbing is a style of climbing in which the rope starts on the ground as opposed to being connected at the top of the wall as in the top-rope style of climbing. This style of climbing is more engaging mentally, physically, and emotionally, as greater risks are taken by the climber & belayer duo and is often referred to as climbing on the sharp end. It is also the most exhilarating style of climbing.
In lead climbing, the climber clips into protection in the form of quickdraws (sport climbing) or places cams and nuts for protection (traditional climbing) on his or her way up the wall. Once at the top of the wall, the climber sets up a top-rope anchor, allowing others to then climb the same wall using a top-rope belay system.
Skills learned:
- Lead climbing
- Clipping quickdraws
- Setting up a top-rope anchor
- Fall assessment and risk management
Price: $65 + GST per person (2 hours)
